SAFETY PROCEDURES

DOUBLE LOCKS & LATCHES

For additional security, utilize the deadbolt provided on your door upon entering. This will prevent the door from being opened by a regular room key. As an additional precaution, please secure the safety lock.

KEYS

Please safeguard your keys. Do not give your keys to others.

ADMITTANCE

Do not admit people into your room without first making identification.  If there is doubt about a person’s identity, please contact the Front Desk.

IN CASE OF FIRE

FIRE

  • Stay calm.
  • Pull the nearest fire alarm and call 911.
  • If possible, close doors around the fire area.
  • Phone the operator.
  • Grab room key (if possible, in case you have to return to your room).
  • Follow the Exit signs safely out of the building (if possible).

Smoke

If your room is filled with smoke, fold a wet towel into a triangle and tie it to your nose and mouth. Get on your hands and knees (or stomach) and crawl to the door. Open slowly and exit.

If you cannot leave your room

  • Dial “0”.  If unavailable, call 911.
  • Shut off the air conditioner.
  • Wedge a wet cloth under the door and around the door and vents.
  • Remove the drapes from the windows.
  • Check to see if there is smoke outside the window. Hang a sheet or light colored material against the glass. This will signal your location, letting firefighters know that the room is occupied. Keep part of the sheet inside and wet with water.
  • Fill the bathtub or sink with cold water for firefighting. Use ice buckets or other containers to keep water available to quickly moisten wet clothes that are keeping the smoke out.
  • Stay low and continue firefighting until help arrives.
